SCHOOLS 20mph ZONES SCHEME – Objection to the traffic calming features proposed in the Keighley Constituency

The Schools 20mph Zones scheme was approved as part of the Strategic Safer Roads Programme 2020/21. The scheme covers 24 schools within the Bradford West, Bradford East and Keighley Central constituencies.
Successful 20 mph zones are generally self-enforcing and the areas within this scheme have been carefully selected to include mainly streets where there are existing traffic calming measures in place or, if not, the road layout and level of on-street parking and traffic movement already results in vehicle speeds generally around 20mph or below. However, there are some roads within the proposed zones where it is considered that additional calming measures are required to ensure traffic speeds are compliant with the speed limit. To achieve compliance there should be no expectation on the police to provide additional enforcement beyond their routine activity, unless this has been explicitly agreed.
The purpose of the report was to consider an objection to the traffic calming proposals in the Keighley Central constituency.
The reason for the decision is to ensure traffic speeds on all roads within the zones are compliant with the new 20mph speed limit.
