A progress update on delivery of the adopted Bereavement Strategy covering:-

·         proposed new crematoria

·         the potential refurbishment of Oakworth Crematorium

·         a new Muslim burial ground lease with the Council for Mosques

The report will seek approval of the proposed new crematoria sites and authority to proceed to detailed design and costing through release of capital funding.

The report will present options and recommendations relating to both future provision of burial services for the Muslim community and also the Council’s approach to unauthorised memorials within its cemeteries.

A not-for-publication appendix will also consider options going forward in respect of how post mortems of deceased persons can be conducted in the most cost-effective yet respectful manner.
