We object to the proposed changes on the following
grounds:
• It could reduce tourist and shopping traffic with a negative
impact on the town and it’s businesses
• The increase in permit charges for workers is extreme: 150%
and also does not guarantee parking near your place of work. This
increase may result in increased numbers of workers parking in
streets not currently included in the parking permit scheme, it
will push problems to outer areas.
• The proposed charges for resident permit parking holders to
pay £35 pa would penalise those who have no drive or garage.
It would not secure a parking place outside the resident's home or
even on their street. What service are they receiving for the
charge?
• Annual permit charges would encourage residents to alter
front gardens into driveways and this, in turn, would reduce street
parking spaces, green spaces and biodiversity.
• As most terraced housing sits in the conservation areas
there is a concern that this will change the aesthetics of Ilkley
as a beautiful Victorian town.
• This is economic targeting against those who live and work
in the areas with fewest facilities, whereas residents with drives
and garages will not be contributing to the parking in
Ilkley.
