Save Ingleborough Hall from closure

We the undersigned petition the council to reconsider the proposed closure of Ingleborough Hall Outdoor Education Centre. Closing the centre would have a significant detrimental effect on not only the educational outcomes but also the physical, social and emotional education and wellbeing of far too many children and young people in the Bradford area and far beyond. We would like the Council to look at different ways to save money rather than closing this real asset to the children, other visitors and the community local to Ingleborough Hall.

Ingleborough Hall, a much loved, magnificent, Grade 2 listed mansion house with 80 acres of grounds, is a hidden gem in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Now run as an Outdoor Education Centre, Ingleborough Hall offers exciting and often once in a lifetime opportunities for young people to take part in adventurous activities such as caving, gorge scrambling, tree climbing, abseiling and archery to name a few.

With a fully catered service for up to 112 visitors (including a specially adapted suite for people with disabilities, plus room for a carer), Ingleborough Hall plays host to over 80 schools each year (more than 4000 children); short break groups, children in care, family respite and young people with SEND. Closing Ingleborough Hall would be a serious detriment to all of these visitors.

Given the recent news that Central Government have released an additional £600m to help relieve the pressures of Children's Social Care; plus an increase to 4% in Core Spending Power, we would like the Council to invest in this wonderful asset for the future generations. The closure of Ingleborough Hall will save just 1% of what the Council as a whole needs to save for the next three years - the benefits for the children far outweigh the small financial saving. Thank you.
