Wakefield Road / Tong Street improvement scheme

Purpose of the consultation

Bradford Council, in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, are preparing to launch a public consultation on plans to improve a key stretch of the A650 road in the Bradford district.

 

The proposals, which cover a combined 3.6km stretch of Wakefield Road and Tong Street from the junction with Croft Street in the city centre to the Tong Leadership Academy School, include:

 

  • Improved footpaths and pedestrian crossings
  • Road widening along parts of Tong Street
  • Improved junctions
  • Green space improvements with new seating, soft landscaping and tree planting
  • Subways removed on Wakefield Road
  • Improvements to bus stops along the route
  • New bus lanes on Wakefield Road
  • A new two-way cycle path along the route
